DFMA Training and Application Workshops

Our primary goal is to help our customers achieve immediate results from their DFMA software while equipping the design teams with the knowledge and skills for the long term. The aim of our workshops (listed to the left) are to:

  • Trains teams in the principles and benefits of DFMA concurrent engineering strategies.
  • Gives a hands-on understanding of how DFMA works in a concurrent engineering environment.
  • Provides participants with a thorough understanding of the theories behind DFMA along with case-study examples of the success of these tools.
  • Presents team members with a structured example of team-use of DFMA.
  • Help users realise immediate design improvements on their own company products.
  • Encourage design creativity and teamwork.
  • Act as the catalyst for innovation.

All of our workshops are hands-on, practical, and fairly intensive. The different workshops are defined by objective and duration.

Objectives include Training or Application -typically focused to achieve a specific objective such as cost reduction, or parts reduction, or quality enhancement. Click here or on Cost Reduction for an excellent example of a focused workshop.

Duration is standardly 1, 2, or 3 days though further days are often scheduled. Hands-on time with the software tools is maximised in the workshops. See below or left for the different workshops on offer.

Basic Objective

Training

We have developed several training workshops that cover the basic requirements needed to successfully analyse product designs using the Boothroyd Dewhurst methodology as well as explore the more detailed aspects of the DFMA system in the two day formats. Using BDI’s Design for Manufacture and Assembly software, emphasis is placed on using the DFMA design philosophy in the design and redesign process. A train-the-Trainer course is also available.

Application

Hands-on Application Workshops help teams quickly and effectively begin to use and implement DFMA. Commencing with introductions to the DFMA techniques, and concluding with analyses of your own products, it's a perfect route to integration of DFMA into your company's product development process and to securing early benefits from the application of DFMA to your product designs.

Options by Duration

See below for brief details of our Workshops with links to sample agendas:

One day Hands-on DFMA Workshops.

One-day DFMA Training is aimed at new users of the DFMA software to help them get rapid results. It is geared towards the novice user who may only have a limited knowledge of assembly procedures and the design for assembly methodology

One-day DFMA Application workshops are specifically designed to provide participants with fast results and an immediate payback. This is accomplished with a full session devoted to performing team-oriented DFMA analyses and redesign on participants' individual company products.

Two day Hands-on DFMA Workshops.

Two-day DFMA training is designed to introduce the full suite of DFMA tools to your team. Beginning with Design for Assembly methodology and software, quickly followed by DFM and the multi-process DFM software and its integration with DFA.

Two-day DFMA Application workshops are aimed at obtaining DFMA redesigns of your products using your team led by our DFMA experts. As our experts are very flexible, they can vary the agenda easily to meet your specific needs.

Two day Trainer Certification.

A two-day course geared toward company champions and experts, and third-party trainers. The course is for experienced users and aims to promote successful training workshops, to help achieve higher levels of DFMA implementation and commitment within their company. This is an intensive course culminating in an exam to certify the trainer as a DFMA expert and instructor of BDI's DFMA.

Three+ day Hands-on DFMA Workshops.

Three+ day DFMA workshops are designed to introduce the full suite of DFMA tools to your team. Beginning with Design for Assembly methodology and software, quickly followed by DFM and the multi-process DFM software and its integration with DFA. Additional focus is placed on developing component costs resulting from DFA analysis work.

Additional time may be required depending on product complexity and participant knowledge of both DFMA and of the products to be analysed. As a result, workshops of both four and five days are also available.

“Promoted a change in design methodology.”

“Opened closed minds to new methods of design.”

“Made you think from the beginning before you design.”

“Real world experience from other companies, not just academia.”

“Practical use with (our) product was a valuable part of the program".

“Everything has real life applications-you can’t make an argument not to use these workshops".
